My students need these clay supplies to continue the development of our ceramic program. Student skills are rapidly improving in both hand built and wheel thrown pottery. Our plan is to create professional quality pottery.
Our school offers students a new approach to education with an emphasis on student-led STEM education. The school recently completed construction on a new campus and because of its focus we offer a rich technology and environment. We encourage students to explore and create innovative approaches to analyzing and solving present and future world problems through hands-on investigations and experiences.
Our school also embraces traditional exploration in the fine arts and new age materials and techniques.
Students from our community apply and select to go to this school as an option over other area schools because of the opportunities it offers. It should also be noted that our students are in a highest poverty area making it even more important for the students to have an opportunity to engage in high tech career exploration so that they can secure an upward mobile future.
My Project
With the pottery sculpting tools we are asking for, we can further improve the quality of the pottery we produce by cleaning and smoothing seams and edges. The ball stylus and rolling tools will allow students to add a variety of surface decorations to the clay. The two banding wheels will aid students in embossing, trailing slip and various glazing techniques. For firing the Roselli Stilt are needed to set our finished glaze ceramic pieces off the surface of the kiln shelves.
Each spring we will have a Ceramic Show and Sale with profits being recorded and added to our Art Department school budget to purchase extra clay and tools beyond the state and district funding resources to assure students will never be charged for the courses they take and materials they use.
