Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are full of enthusiasm for learning. They are eager to discuss their experiences and thoughts during classroom discussions and lessons. My first graders try to complete their work to the best of their abilities.
I am consistently impressed with the cheerful attitudes of my students.
They are happy to learn and participate in the routines and expectations of a classroom. They seek to achieve grade level goals. My first grade students push themselves to do more and learn more.
My hope is to provide a comfortable and safe classroom for my students. An environment that encourages learning and thought.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Unfortunately, I do not have a whiteboard for every student in my class. The whiteboards I do have are old and stained.
By donating to our project, you will give all students the opportunity to use a whiteboard.
Furthermore, you will be promoting engagement in the classroom. My first grade students enjoy using whiteboards. It gives them a different way to demonstrate their learning. They interact with each other by discussing their answers and drawings (evidence of their math answer). The use of whiteboards is an important part of my math lessons.
