My students are an amazing group of diverse children that are excited to learn and grow. My classroom is for students ages 3 to 5 years old. My students are developmentally delayed and many need one-on-one direct instruction. Lessons are tailored to each student's daily needs. My Pre-K class is smart, kind, and creative. My kids are filled with joy, excitement, and a true love for learning. They are the reason that I love what I do!
My students might be little, but show big emotions at times.
Personal responsibility and Emotional resilience is the ability to regulate emotions during times of stress. It helps children understand how and why they experience a certain feeling during a moment. It helps children manage their emotions in a healthy, constructive way. Resilience is important because it’s what children need to process and overcome hardship.
When young children are faced with big emotions, they can become overwhelmed. This feeling can affect their ability to cope. Encouraging young children to take a break is a way for them to self regulate their emotions. This cube will provide a calm space inside of my class room for my students to self regulate their emotions.
PK standard III.B.1.a "demonstrates an ability to self regulate" is the standard I will be working on with providing my students a calm safe to self regulate when they show big emotions. Inside of the cube will be mirrors, sensory materials, breathing charts, and other hands on materials. An adult will work with the student, when ready, to help the student recognize their emotions and be able to join back in the classroom activities.
