Bringing the World to Students

My students need 110 copies of, "Time For Kids" which will give every child one copy each.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We all know how essential learning about current events in our country and the world are today. They effect us directly and indirectly and we must be aware of them. The students we teach at my school come from broken homes and live in poverty. The education we provide for them in school is their only hope to have a good future. As teachers, we do our best to provide them the experiences and education they need to be successful. We have found that, "Time for Kids" is an excellent, kid friendly magazine and tool to bring this to our students. It is informative, meets the NC standard course of study, and most of all kids love it. It not only covers social studies, science, health, but it allows us to integrate it with reading skills at the same time. It is a win-win situation for us as teachers but more importantly the students.

Despite the fact that our school population is made of families living in poverty, we have some extremely bright children. They love to read and learn about whats happening around us and what other kids are doing today. Kids love Time for Kids because it is mostly written by other kids. Students love to learn from other kids rather than their teachers. What's cooler than that to them? They feed off of ideas that aspire them to work hard so that they can be successful one day and contribute to the success of our world as well. School is often the only good part of their lives and we strive for them to persevere through tough times and rise above the obstacles they face daily in their home life situations.

Although we have challenging students in our classes everyday, the teachers at our school really care about the children. We try to understand what they face daily, what they are lacking, and try to show them that they can trust us. Every year we spend countless dollars to provide these children with even the most basic daily needs; tissues, toothbrushes, soap, socks, shoes, and jackets, but we can only do so much as there are so many that need things. With the help of donorschoose we are able to provide more resources for students in our classrooms that are in desperate need.

We hope that you will consider funding this project for our school. The students at our school are so appreciative of the little things that we provide for them. By providing this charity for us, it will help make a difference in their daily lives and futures as well.
