My students need Chromebooks to support math instruction for a diverse range of student needs, and give access to digital resources of their peers who bring their own computers, thus leveling the digital divide.
Students at my school need access to technology to communicate with parents, design project based assessments using Google Apps that engage students in 21st-century project-based skills. We have students that don't have access to computers.
The students at our school are from an urban area with high need.
Our school is a charter school and receives very limited funding to support learning. Our school currently has about 340 students and will be growing to 400 plus for the upcoming year. As a result, our staff and student population are increasing. Therefore, our need to supply technology is increasing. This allows students to access instructional resources for curriculum, increase communication with parents, students, and teachers, and developing skills for the 21st century using classical curriculum surrounding leadership and entrepreneurship. Our school is located in a high poverty area. As a result, we have students that don't have access to computers at home for projects and work. They rely on the computers we have at school, however, we don't have enough for all students to use computers during their math class and study hall times.
My Project
By acquiring Chromebooks for my classroom, students will be able to access resources such as Google Classroom, where all curricular assignments are posted, check their online grades to self-monitor progress and set individual goals to improve their mathematical achievement. Students will be able to leverage Google apps for education to collect, analyses and make informed decisions as it relates to real-world data. Students can design multi-media presentations to demonstrate mathematical thinking, as part of project-based collaborative assessments.
Chromebooks will allow differentiated workstations within a single classroom setting.
Through leveling technology, I will be able to utilize varied teaching strategies to reinforce real-world application of math concepts and meet students unique learning needs. This varied approach will improve student engagement and retention of the content.
