I am a second grade teacher in a low income, high poverty area in Florida. Ours is a Title I school which means that almost all of the students in the school receive free or reduced-price lunch. I am currently teaching reading, writing, and social studies to two amazing groups of English language learners, some of whom have just arrived from other countries.
Most of our children come from difficult home environments and have unhappy stories to share.
They also lack exposure to many things that we can sometimes take for granted. My students are hard-working and eager to learn. They are also so grateful for new opportunities and excited about fun learning experiences. They have stolen my heart with their enthusiasm for learning.
I believe in using a cross-curricular approach to target different learning styles and to combat boredom and stimulate learning, as well as to make learning fun, exciting, and engaging for all types of learners. At least half of my students have just arrived from different countries and they need help with their English language acquisition. We do anything from singing, dancing, exercise, art, any approach that will solidify our learning while having fun in the process.
My students need a color printer in order to print assignments and projects in the classroom. It would allow me to instantly print out worksheets or make photocopies of work or letters to send home. I can also instantly print rich and colorful anchor charts, small group games, awards, and anything else that may be needed at any given moment in our busy classroom. Differentiated worksheets, passages, and graphic organizers can be printed right there on the spot as well.
A color printer would be an amazing addition to our second grade classroom allowing for endless possibilities.
A printer is necessary for a classroom environment. In addition, it will also help our classroom run more efficiently because I can print out reports for parent conferences, as well as any accompanying data. A color printer will not only allow us to print or copy things when we need them, but will also provide us with colorful and engaging materials, thereby ensuring the success of my students.
