My Students
My PreK students are four and five-year-olds who come from high poverty or English as a second language homes. These students attend a public school in an urban area of Texas.
For most of my students, my classroom is their first school experience and they come with such an excitement for learning and trying new things, like working puzzles, listening to a book, or painting.
I am privileged to watch them grow and develop skills in such a hands-on environment!
My Project
Seeing animals up close and personal makes learning come alive! Many of my pre-k students have never been to a real zoo, so this presentation is the next best thing. Zookeepers will bring six to eight animals to our school for a 45 minute presentation about the animals habitat, diet, and other characteristics. Seeing an owl fly across the room, touching an enormous tortoise, or petting a snake is so much more engaging than just ready about animals in books. It will be a day my students never forget when a flamingo and a penguin come walking into our classroom.
