My students need bean bags and floor seats to allow them opportunities to learn and work in other areas of the classroom instead of always sitting at their desk.
It gives me such joy to watch my students show their true personalities during learning when they are able to feel comfortable and safe. When I watch them more around the classroom and collaborate in small groups it encouraging as a teacher and it is what motivated me to keep doing my job.
My students may be getting bigger, but they are still children that want to learn.
They deserve to feel comfortable in a place where they spend most of their day! I pride myself on making learning enjoyable and school a place where my students feel safe and want to come to.
My Project
My fifth graders may be getting bigger, but that doesn't mean they don't like to sit on the floor with a good book or work with a partner on math problems while sitting around the room. My "big-little" humans as I call them deserve the opportunity to spread out from their desks and pick a comfortable spot to learn.
It's hard to learn when your bottom hurts from sitting in a chair for hours!
I want to give my students a chance to enjoy learning again and spend more time out of our seats. I want to be able to pull a small group of students to my back table while others are collaborating solving a math problem on the carpet and others are enjoying a good book in the corner in a bean bag instead of having to simply remain in their uncomfortable blue desk chair.
I want my classroom to be an inviting place to gather and learn. I feel as though the more I build my theme around comfort my students will feel more free to learn and be themselves. They grow up so fast and I don't want them to feel like they are older than they are by making them sit in desks all day! I want them to be kids and enjoy being one at the same time while I prepare them to be college and career ready!
