Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a sixth‑grade English Language Arts teacher at a Title I school, where I work daily with bright, driven, and creative students who demonstrate strong leadership potential and a genuine love for learning. Teaching is not just my profession—it is my passion. I strive to foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence through engaging literature, meaningful writing opportunities, and collaborative discussions. Many of my students are advanced thinkers who show remarkable creativity and leadership abilities, yet they face significant financial barriers beyond their control. As a Title I school, our families often struggle to provide basic school supplies, and ongoing budget cuts have reduced the resources available in our classrooms. These challenges make it difficult for students to arrive fully prepared, despite their motivation and academic potential.

This grant is for classroom supplies and items to make my classroom inviting, warm, and homey so all students feel supported and ready to learn.

To create a successful learning environment, I am requesting materials that support both instruction and student engagement, including plastic sleeves to reuse learning activities, markers for group projects and visual responses, plastic folders and notebooks to keep students organized, and other essential supplies used daily in ELA instruction. Additionally, classroom items that create a welcoming space—such as flexible seating options, calming décor, and organizational tools—will help students feel safe, valued, and comfortable. When students feel at home in their classroom and have consistent access to the supplies they need, they are more willing to take academic risks, collaborate with peers, and fully engage in their learning.
