My 4th grade classroom is an amazing place to be! My students have been working extremely hard this year, and have completely bought into our "Bright Light Bodega" - our classroom store featuring our school mascot - Watt - (the Light Bulb) as we are the Thomas Edison School.
Our classroom store gives students tangible rewards they can choose by turning in "Bright Light" tokens they earn throughout the week for good classroom citizenship, helping others, persevering in academics, and building up our classroom community.
Additionally, students have invaluable experience building up their financial literacy as our Bright Light Bodega is student run - pupils run the market for their peers, exchanging bright light tokens and making change. For this reason, the cash register I am asking for has a real working calculator and will increase students' skills and experience working with our classroom "money." We also talk about decision making skills as students decide between spending and saving as they work towards higher value Bodega products.
Stocking our Bright Light Bodega with high value reward items like Model Magic Clay, cute erasers, snack treats, slime, fidget toys, and invisible ink pens will maintain the classroom buy-in into our store and the great citizenship supported by earning Bright Light money to participate. Additionally, I am asking for storage bins to keep all our store materials neat and organized. Thank you so much for your consideration in supporting my students - they truly deserve the best!
