Bright and Inspirational Classroom

Help me give my students a welcoming classroom with bright, inspirational wall art, chalkboard labels for our wall calendar, and some school supplies to replace items lost in Hurricane Ida.

My Students

My students have faced disruptions for the past 3 years. This year, they've been challenged with new learning methods, rigorous pacing and thought-provoking material, a fully technology-integrated classroom, and other new challenges in addition to the pandemic and Hurricane Ida. Through this all, my students have been respectful, compassionate, motivated, and, above all, resilient.

Their willingness to try despite countless setbacks is inspiring.

These young adults have rekindled some of my passion for teaching. They email and comment on assignments in quarantine or when they are too shy to ask in person. Their discussions are insightful. In fact, they've often brought up ideas I hadn’t considered. They are interested and engaged in our curriculum. Their excitement and diligence are contagious. One young lady even emailed about an assignment that was due the Friday before Ida hit, concerned because she couldn’t complete her assignment because they were evacuating. They are concerned about their peers, the staff, and themselves.

My students are wonderfully engaged, awesome kids. Even with the destruction our community is facing, my students have been excited to return to school and are concerned about their teachers and peers and that speaks volumes about their character.

My Project

The atmosphere of a classroom greatly affects student mood, which then affects student performance. Before Hurricane Ida, my classroom was cozy and welcoming with inspirational art, lamps with softer light than the harsh fluorescents, and bright labels for our calendar. After Hurricane Ida, my classroom walls were stripped bare with several sections of all replaced including an entire back wall. All but a few small items of our decorations were lost including my inspirational wall clings, calendar labels, and laminated posters.

It is my hope to create a welcoming environment again for students who have lost so much due to Hurricane Ida and have faced so much turmoil from Covid.

I want my students to have something positive to encourage them even when things seem impossible and the challenges insurmountable. I am requesting decorations, stickers, markers and more.

I hope these materials brighten my students' day and remind them that they matter, they are awesome, and they have people who care about them.
