My Students
My students are an amazing group of teens who are working hard to excel in their educations, after-school activities, and, for many, outside employment. Our school is a diverse, inner-city, community-oriented school.
My students go above and beyond to be successful!
This year, I primarily teach the honors classes, including one Advanced Placement class and one dual-credit class. These students work hard to achieve inside and outside the classroom, despite facing some enormous challenges. I want to encourage them to continue to expand their minds and their worlds through educational and social opportunities.
My Project
This project is to receive a classroom set of Aldous Huxley's classic dystopian novel Brave New World. This is one of the novels recommended for students to read before college, and one of my all-time favorites.
Brave New World was written in 1932, but its themes are relevant to our world and culture.
Having this classroom set will allow my students to explore topics such as the ethic reproductive technology, psychological manipulation, classical conditioning, social caste systems, and the various opiates of the masses.
This book is considered one of the 100 greatest novels of all time, and I know that my students will love having the chance to explore and discuss the many questions that arise through a first reading.
