Students from low-income homes come to school hungry each day. My high school students who have younger siblings tend to make sure the younger sibling gets plenty of food before they even consider eating. I have seen high school students take pre-packaged items in their school breakfast and lunch home with them. When approached about why, the students replied, “It's for supper for my sister/brother.” I would love to have a supply of snacks, bottled water, and juice in my office available to students. Students could drop by my office to pick up a snack, without drawing attention to their needs.
