I have enjoyed getting to know my twenty fabulous kindergarteners through open house and a week of on site instruction. Of my 20 kindergarteners, I have 4 four virtual students who are learning from home right now. I will be providing them with videos so they can learn the same concepts my onsite kids are learning. My sixteen onsite students provide a wide range of diversity, I have one from the Philippines, one from the Marshall Islands, three from Burma, five from Mexico, and six from America. In return, I have six of those students who do not speak English. In addition, I have one student with a non life threatening peanut allergy and another with asthma.
I know we will have a successful year and face each challenge with a great attitude.
We have to have an "I CAN" attitude to be successful.
My Project
I teach in a low income, poverty level school. During the 2019-2020 school year, sixty-five percent of our students were on free or reduced lunch. We eat lunch at 10:30 a.m. so by mid afternoon my students are hungry, especially if lunch was something they didn't really like. In years past I have used a snack calendar and asked students to bring enough snacks for the whole class for two days. This works well most of the time, however; with COVID-19, our principal would prefer we cut back on what we have coming from home. If I have each student bring their own snack, there would be several that don't have a snack at all.
The snacks, brain boosters, I have chosen will provide my students with an afternoon snack for at least 50 school days.
