My Project

In my classroom, we focus on the fundamental music skill of pitch and rhythm. At the core of rhythm is feeling the steady beat. We start by practicing feeling the steady beat and then move to gaining the coordination to play and move to the steady beat. There are many students, even young ones, who struggle with that coordination. I have borrowed a few balls from the gym teacher to experiment with coordination rhythm games which the kids loved, however, I cannot regularly have access to those supplies since they are used in gym class.

By having my own classroom set of balls, I can help the students gain coordination in feeling and performing steady beat, coordination which carries over into sports and life.

I am excited to be able to offer more fun hands-on activities to keep my less engaged students focused. I look forward to seeing the smiles as my students find success while doing fun movement activities. I have also requested a few games for my music creation centers. These items will be adapted to be able to compose rhythms.
