Studies show time and time again how the process of learning music teaches the brain how to learn other subjects like reading, math, and science. Orff instruments such as the xylophone with removable bars allow students to create music within set parameters which sets them up for success. Removing bars allows us to customize the key of the instrument so students are not playing wrong notes by accident. Orff instruments, with care, last for many years so they are a fantastic investment in student learning. Creation is a hallmark of learning in the arts. The Orff xylophone will be a fantastic addition to our creation and composition units plus will allow students to accompany singing selections to create a full ensemble. All ages from young 5s through 5th grade will benefit. We currently have ukuleles for older students to use. They are in need of a few replacement strings. Felt picks will allow these instruments to be used by students who have had sensory difficulties with finger strumming.
