Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a part of the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities. Their ages range from three to six, and their disabilities widely vary. They may have a diagnosis of Autism, Down syndrome, or Health Impairments. They may be learning the foundations for reading, or they may be learning to hold a spoon on their own for the first time. Being their teacher means I see their needs and help them to reach their potential.
My students have so many amazing gifts to share with this world.
Spend a day in my classroom and you would see their resilience, intelligence, kindness, and many unique talents. You would also see us singing, creating, dancing, and making memories together to form a solid foundation for my students' education.
Each day is an opportunity to create experiences to help my students improve their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills.
My Project
My students all have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) with goals and objectives to address their Physical, Social, Health and Safety, and Intellectual needs. Creating a safe space within our classroom to intentionally work on physical development will positively impact my students as we provide instruction and opportunities to work on these goals and objectives.
While some of my students' goals and objectives aim to work on skills such as balancing or bearing weight, others are learning strategies to regulate their bodies so they are ready to learn during instructional times.
The Trampoline Fold and Go will stimulate brain and muscle coordination. The Super-Safe Tumbling Mat and Tumbling Ramp will be the critical component for making this developmental, multi-sensory, learning area of our classroom possible.
