Books to the Rescue!
My students need these books, including The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and many more, to expand on the series they are reading in order to increase comprehension skills and foster the love of reading.
Do you remember the first series you ever loved? My students love to read, and when I can provide books in class for them, they can get sucked into the world they read about, forgetting their troubles and having access to books they can't normally afford due to poverty. These will help my students.
We are at a public school with a high poverty rate.
My fifth graders here are diverse learners with a variety of interests. They love to read and look forward to silent reading time, and when I can offer an exciting book for them to read, that makes them feel important and valued as a person and as a reader. I want to provide this feeling for all my students and help develop literacy skills and a passion for reading creative books.
As mentioned earlier, my students can't often afford to buy all the books they are interested in reading, and our school library only has about 1-2 copies of these that the entire school has to share. I want to be able to offer these in my classroom library, so all my future classes can enjoy them for years to come. They will develop a passion for reading, strengthen literacy and comprehension skills, and learn about new and exciting worlds in the books they read.
It's rewarding when I can help a student find a book series that they love.
I have never forgotten my favorites and the teachers who helped me find my reading passions. With your help, we can do the same and make a life-long positive impact on students for years to come.
