I need assistance purchasing books to develop my anti-racist teaching practices and make my ELA instruction more culturally competent.

My Students

I teach 6th grade English and Social Studies. The students in my classroom are extremely diverse in terms of learning needs, emotional needs, and socioeconomic background. My students love to use technology, read, and collaborate with each other.

My students use Chromebooks for the majority of their learning activities but they also love to move and express themselves through their learning.

Many of them truly love to learn and love having the opportunity to participate in new activities. They love to show me what they can do with their growing minds!

My Project

As a participant in the Book Love Foundation's Summer Book Club, I will have the opportunity to engage deeply with diverse texts at the elementary and middle school grade level. I will also have access to a teacher community throughout the year to have deep discussions about teaching diverse literature in the ELA classroom and beyond.

As an educator who is committed to improving my practices and building an anti-racist classroom, additional books will help me progress on my independent journey to be an anti-racist educator.

This learning will benefit my students by making my reading and writing instruction more equitable. I will also be able to pass on my learning to other educators in my building and district as I continue through my teaching career.
