My Students

Have you ever read a book that you became obsessed with--you couldn't put it down no matter what you were "supposed" to be doing? This is the experience I am hoping to create for my students.

I teach both struggling and academic freshman.

They continually complain that the books they are given are boring or cannot be related to and therefore, they do not read them. They live off summaries or neglect to even do this. I want my students to discover the passion books can bring. I want them to find a book that speaks to them, a book, they simply can't put down.

My Project

The books I am requesting are from the YALSA (young adult library services association) book list for the year and recommendations from past students. These are books that have literary merit and are high-interest. Students will be given time in class to read a book of their choosing and hopefully, develop a love of reading by doing so.

Through your donations, students will have assess to new literature that will increase their chances to find a book they won't be able to put down.

These books could open the literary doorways for them for the rest of their lives.
