Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a K-5 Spanish dual-immersion school in Sonoma, California. Our students are native Spanish speakers and native English speakers who together are learning to become fully bilingual and bi-literate individuals. Coming back from Distance Learning we are striving to create the best learning environment for all of our students. Learning a second language is difficult in person and has extra challenges coming back from being online for over a year!

All of our 1st graders are eager to learn and excited about collaborating with their teacher and classmates everyday!

Our first graders are enthusiastic learners and look forward to new lessons and engaging materials every day. They are learning to express themselves through writing, illustrating and collaborating with each other. They love hands-on activities where they can talk and learn together a new language.

My Project

The books I am requesting are Clifford and If You Gave a Mouse a Cookie series books. These books ,apart from being new and engaging, are books that are both in Spanish and English!!! It has been difficult to find books about that are actually engaging for my first graders. These books are sure to be a hit in my classroom!

I am requesting a large amount of books about many different themes because I want to have variety of books for my students to pick from during these COVID times where we can't be sharing books like before.

My students now each have a book box where they get to pick and keep books for a week. After they turn them in I disinfect them and they get to choose other books for the week. I try to keep the exposure of book sharing to a minimum in order to keep my students as safe as possible. Please make a donation to help bring these wonderful and engaging books into our Dual Immersion classroom!
