My Project

My students are eager. They are brilliant. They are... expecting their teachers to recommend the same books that their parents read in high school. I don't want that for them.

My students read, every day, for the first 10-20 minutes of class.

Every. Day. We continue to create a culture at our high school of reading for joy. No matter what they deal with outside of our halls, there will always be a routine for them around reading, something they can return to, to trust that they can fall into a book and lose themselves in storytelling.

I want to put more books on our shelves that inspire that joy. That inspires hope, love, or belonging, or just gives them an opportunity to merely be seen through literature. This list of books is the start of that. Thank you for helping me start this in my classroom.
