Wouldn't it be great if teens had books that they WANTED to read? I teach academic (college-bound) sophomores and seniors, as well as a sophomore support class.

My goal is to get my students to develop a love of reading. The majority of my students classify themselves as non-readers and have admitted they only read if they have to to get a good grade; yet, I recently did a book talk with my classes and when I showed them examples of popular fiction they were thrilled that there were actually "cool," "interesting" books to read.

I am requesting 69 of the books listed by YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services Association) as the Best Books of 2009 for Young Adults. These are books that are recommended for ages 12-18 that are considered good quality literature that are also appealing reading for teens. The books are in a multitude of genres and styles and reflect different teen experiences.

You will make it possible for my students to read modern, fun literature that has the potential to make them life-long lovers of the written word.
