Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach science, math, and Mandarin language arts. I find project-based learning to be fun and engaging for the students, especially for science lessons. We share ideas for questions about different units. We are an IB school, where all the students share the common attribute and attitude. Therefore, project-based learning is more important to learn from the experience rather than books.

Science projects are not only for knowledge purpose, but also for students to cultivate their logical critical and creative thinking skills.

In the past years, we used cotton to make clouds, sprayed color water to discuss precipitation, and used glasses filled to different levels of water to experience sound. Students are inspired by these activities and projects. They always ask further questions which will help them to explore the deeper reason.

My Project

My students are learning Mandarin Chinese. These books can help them with their reading skill and expand the vocabularies they don't know yet. And by reading the authentic stories, they can benefit from the language structure and their output language skills. By learning another language, it will help the younger children to expand their world vision and learning abilities to acquire different languages. These books are well designed and took considerations of second language learner strategies. My students will improve a lot by using these books and communicating with each other. Thank you for your help!
