My Students

I work with a wonderful group of curious Pre-K learners who are eager to discover their world and soak up new information like a sponge. My Pre-K program is funded through Title I, meaning more than 50% of students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. Most of my students are English Language Learners coming from Spanish speaking households.

My classroom budget has been cut more than 70% over the past few years due to a lack in proper funding. This has made it difficult for me to provide them with the necessary classroom materials they deserve.

90% of a child's brain develops before the age of 5. Pre-kindergarten is a vital time in a child's life where the brain is developing and making neural connections which form motivation, problem solving, self-regulation, and communication skills that will leave a life long imprint.

My Project

My students current listening center is outdated and not functioning properly. I want to ensure all of my students have access to listening to their favorite story any time. Often, a book is read aloud at story time and my students want to hear it repeatedly.

The greatest gift is a passion for reading.

With this new center, my students will be able to listen to stories multiple times which is critical in the early years. As a child memorizes books, it builds their confidence as readers and develops reading comprehension. This listening center will also support a passion for books, spark imaginative thinking, encourage problem solving, and develop book handling skills.
