This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me give my classroom library a new home. I work hard to collect diverse books for my library so my students can see themselves in the titles. Something that is missing is a place to keep the books safely stored. I have many titles for students to choose from but it can be hard for them to see their options when my current book shelves are falling apart.

I work in a title 1 school, meaning the majority of my students come from low income families.

The books in my classroom provide most access for the majority of students to texts. Currently a lot of our books are struggling to make it through the school year because they don't fit properly on the shelves. I was able to replace some furniture in my classroom for students to sit, now it would be amazing to provide a new space for my books. I hope to use the new shelves to display books in an engaging way that will encourage students to barrow and take proper care of them.

The students in my classroom come from many backgrounds and experiences. Being a title 1 school most of my students have experienced trauma or unstable households. I like to think of my classroom as a stable place for students to find the supplies they need. The majority of my students come to school without school supplies and I provide the basics and allow them to take books home. I want to keep my library in good condition for future students to come. Help my books survive the next school year.
