My Project

I am a reading teacher for grades Kindergarten-5th grade in a Title I school in Raleigh, NC. My students are a diverse group who speak a variety of languages, come from many different places, engage in various extracurricular activities, and embrace countless new experiences. What they have in common is their desire to learn. Reading is the foundational block needed for students to engage in learning. Reading opens a whole new world for children. That's why I have the best job in the world. I get to open up the world of reading to my students! I want to give my students every opportunity to become lovers of reading that will lead to a lifetime of learning.

Providing students with the tools to bring books home, see them proudly displayed, and engage with them in fun and meaningful ways can significantly increase their reading engagement and achievement.

This project includes shelfs and magnetic file holders that will be used to display books throughout the classroom. The book pouches will be used to send home books so students can practice independent reading. The book character plush is from a series of much loved books that will be used as a reading buddy to encourage oral reading fluency.
