Books for Spotting Our Emotions and Getting Along

Help me give my students books that feature emotional self management and how to survive life's challenges like perseverance, teamwork, and responsibility.

My Project

My students love Diane Alber's Spot book series. They are incredibly popular. We also love Go To Sleep Anxiety a Disney Inside Out 2 book (our copy got lost). Improving our title selection for these two book series is going to really get students talking about emotions and teamwork. A big goal in our library lessons this year is to improve teamwork and collaboration. Adding these books to our nonfiction selections on psychology will be a great fit for our students.

Students can learn to harness their emotions and practice the emotional management and teamwork skills from engaging books.

These skills will be a great help to our students as they grow into confident young people. My favorite things is when I can see our students practicing the strategies (such as empathy and kindness) from the books. Students can try tapping on a palm for a private mental exercise or taking a moment to breathe. Other students feel empowered to ask for breaks or request a visit with our school counselor to refocus and regroup. The books in our project will help to normalize and celebrate mental well being activities. Our student social and emotional well being will be supported by adding these books to our library collection. Relationships is where social emotional learning truly grows these skills, but using additional resources is going to support our students in these goals.
