My students need books to read to their buddies and 12 subscriptions to SuperScience magazine.

My Students

We love our buddies. I teach the Associated Student Body Leadership class. I have 24 students who have proven themselves as leaders academically and behaviorally. Three years ago we started a buddy program with our special needs class. On Fridays we spend our leadership class period with our buddies.

This year we have taken the buddy program to the next level.

My students have taken it upon themselves to spend their own time and money for different projects we have done this year. They are very attentive and protective of these students. Collaborating with the SDC teacher has proven effective. The special needs students are isolated from most of the student body. When they see an ASB Leadership student, they are very excited. The SDC students often stop me in the hall to ask if we are coming to their classroom. Our buddies are very interested in animals. We would like to start a library to encourage our buddies to read.

My Project

Eventually, we would like to take our buddies to the zoo. The animal books that we acquire will be a great introduction to the animals we will see at the zoo. The science magazines will also provide a new way for us to interact with our buddies. We are excited to sit down and read with our buddies.

It has been a joy and blessing to see my Leadership students grow as individuals and cooperatively as a class.

It seems as though my students and I are often more positively and emotionally touched by this effort than the very students we are trying to reach out to. Recently we have added one of our buddies full-time to our ASB leadership class. All of my students are ready, willing, and able to make a lasting impact with our buddy program.
