Books for Hungry Readers!

My students need these books that follow an author in a series. The fantasy series books are what they are hungry for, and I do not have enough in the room to satisfy.

My Students

My students are excited about reading, and following an author! There are two authors that they are literally discussing at recess and lunch: Chris D'Lacey and Rick Riordan. I have one copy of each book in the series and my students are doing their best to patiently wait others to finish.

My students are from a very poor and urban setting.

Many of them are newcomers within the last 3-5 years, and have fought very hard to get up to the grade level reading proficiency. We do a lot of discussing of books, authors and series. Right now the fantasy series are all the rage and I do not want to lose momentum with them while they wait for others to finish a book that is 550 pages. I need another 2 sets in the room, even though they are reading them within a two week period.

My Project

You would be directly effecting education and these children's lives. This is really their last year, 5th grade, where a teacher will be guiding them through figuring out what genres, authors, and stories they prefer. We are making such headway with these kids, please keep the momentum going! As we all know, if you can manage to inspire children to actually love reading, you have now changed their lives forever.

This is so important because without these extra copies, I fear that many students will not be touched by these authors and stories.

The result being that what started as a spark into loving reading for a lifetime and diminish. You will be assisting these 33 students this year, and I anticipate these books lasting another 2 years with all the wear... a total of 99 students or more!
