Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious, intelligent, hilarious, and sweet. One of my favorite thing about the kids in my class and school, is how accepting and supportive they are to one another. Most of these kiddos came from other countries in the world and are bilingual. No matter what differences they have, they all treat each other with respect and every classroom is a family.
I am so proud of how hard they work and how much they overcome every day.
They have huge goals and the more they read texts of interest, the more prepared they will be to succeed!
My Project
In this upcoming school year, I have many students who are far below grade level in terms of their reading skills. In third grade, there are many reading tests that can kill the joy of reading for children, especially struggling readers. In order to combat this issue, I would like to supply my students who are reading at a lower level, with a wider range of texts that are motivating and fun. Many books at lower levels seem "baby-ish" to third graders. I have chosen books that have funny characters and interesting story lines that will draw in reluctant readers and help them grow at the same time!
