Students want to feel like real readers. They want to do what they see the adults in their lives doing. If every student can hold a newspaper in their hand, and have common new information to discuss with one another, we can create a room full of purposeful learners who are invested in the world around them. My students love learning about current events! History and science are of high interest to my kids. The more I can get my kids reading with texts that are current and engaging, the stronger my students' reading skills will be. Using the knowledge they gain from Scholastic News, students can practice their skills and strategies with content that matters to their lives. They will also be able to use the articles to start research projects that are specific to their interests.
