My Students

My students would greatly benefit from having a variety of different books in the classroom. With multiple genres available to students, they will be able to find a genre they like, which will help develop a desire to read.

Our campus is a large public school with over 980 students.

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds and are ethnically diverse. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. We are also home to a STEM program where our students conduct research and an award winning Leadership team. We also participate in and have had students qualify at the National History Day state wide competition.

My Project

Reading is a vital part of our lives and getting a student engaged in reading can be difficult, if they haven't found the right type of book.

Having multiple books in a new genre in the classroom provides students an option when choosing a book.

Requested titles include best-sellers like the Maximum Ride series, Virals, Found and the House of Scorpions. This project will allow me to enrich our classroom library with quality books from the science fiction genre. Students could then take Accelerated Reader quizzes which will boost their reading comprehension skills. This will set them up for success in other areas of learning and better prepare them for state testing as well as high school and beyond.
