My Students

My students are a real creative bunch and are always a pleasure to teach. Most of my students truly enjoy art class and make some crazy awesome work. Art class is also a crucial time for them to unplug and be present in the colorful now. Literacy combined with visual arts is one of the best ways to do this. Reading is also very near and dear to our artistic hearts here, so when given the chance those kiddos know a book will be involved! All my students--my younger students especially-- really connect to an art lesson when tread a story first.

My students already love art class, I just want to give them all the resources and opportunity to love art forever!

My students seem to light up when they walk into the Art Room and see that the screens are off and special book is waiting for them (...or when they see clay, that too).

My Project

These books will spice up and supplement art lessons I have done for years, and some will be the main teaching tool used to inspire a new project. Regardless, each book listed will be utilized for an art project. For example, "The Great Wave: A Children's Book Inspired by Hokusai" will be connected to an entire Japanese art unit. "The Goat in the Rug" will be an introductory story for a multicultural art lesson on weaving.

I want my Art Room to continue being a hands-on sanctuary and I believe utilizing books will make that happen.

Books and art... I cannot think of a better combination!
