My Project

February is coming up, and I realize that I don't have a lot of Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks books to read aloud to my students. This project would help me to get some more books to learn more about famous Black figures to celebrate Black History Month in February.

For a Harlem school, learning about African American people that help them and give them hope to dream for a better future, are very important to learn about.

Building up our library with Black History Month books will give our classroom more diversity. Making our library comfortable and inviting will also encourage my students to want to read books.

All the beanbags in our library are broken and have been thrown out, so having these reading pillows and new beanbag chairs will help students to sit comfortably in the library while reading some of these Black History Month books. The colored dot mats can be used to place anywhere around the classroom as Reading Dots so they can sit anywhere to read during our center time.

Our library is also a calming corner so having these calming posters will make our library an engaging and safe corner for children to read and be comforted during times of stress. Once students are calm, they also want to read books in the library.
