Book It: Taking Flight With the Magic of Reading

Help me give my students diverse perspectives with a combination of traditional and graphic novel titles, providing my students with windows and mirrors! Several of these listed are collections, providing more bang for the buck with themed titles.

My Project

There is nothing like a good book to broaden the horizons of any mind, especially younger students. From our beginning to our more capable readers, the combination of the written word and having stories read aloud builds habits and increases the background knowledge that helps our students be successful in the classroom and beyond.

My goal is to stock the library shelves with books that provide windows to the world and mirrors for students to see themselves within the pages.

As a rural school, the school library is often the biggest source for reading material for our students. With a growing diverse population, it is important to have a variety of titles to bring the world to our students. A mix of titles that also reflect the state curricular goals provides resources that students and teachers can use in the classroom for lessons and projects. At the end of the 2025-2026 school year, I did a complete inventory of our collection and was able to find areas with holes. My hope with this project is to fill some of these gaps with current titles with high appeal to our population, making the library a usable resource for reading and learning on several topics.

The library is the heart and hub of the school but needs a little help to keep beating efficiently. Your support in this project will help provide new life in the library, building on the growth already happening in the collection and taking it to the next level. Help my students take flight this year with a collection as robust and diverse as the students and staff that use it.
