We live in a coastal area, with various waterways, that are susceptible to pollution from a variety of factors, Tourism, local trash, carelessness, and poor recycling practices.\r\n\r\nOur school is near a sound, which is home to much wildlife. Fish, game, and bird. Many families rely on the ocean for employment and recreational activities. It is our goal, as future guardians of the area, to keep the area clean, starting with our school and surrounding areas. \r\n\r\nOur 5th graders were very excited to get the materials for this project. They were excited to have the gear to SAFELY collect trash, and be part of a clean up project. What is great about these materials is we can use them over and over, it is not just a one shot project. Teaching our young people to take care of their environment ensures sustainability for the future, especially as tourism is only growing here on the Outer Banks.","fullyFundedDate":1740338184222,"projectUrl":"project/cleaning-up-our-community-waterways/9090571/","projectTitle":"Cleaning up our Community Waterways","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3728344_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1473597318851","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/moana-johnson"},{"teacherId":4822920,"projectId":9600405,"letterContent":"First let me start by saying how much my students and I appreciate your generous donation to our classroom.\r\n\r\nPart of our wish list was to have flexible seating in our classroom. This is especially true when seeing a title in your own language. With our growing Spanish-speaking population, providing Spanish-language and bilingual texts helps send the message to our students that the library is really a place for everyone. \r\n\r\nThis funding gave me the chance to add titles to our Libros section. While there were a handful of picture books and a few chapter books, there were only a few with appeal for older elementary-age students. I was able to source popular titles, like Who Would Win and Dog Man, that have been translated into Spanish. This allows students to read the same books as their peers but in their native language, serving the dual purpose of encouraging young readers and also helping English language learning. When I was younger, I learned Spanish by making connections with familiar words in English. This same approach will help our students learn a new language while still maintaining their native language. \r\n\r\nOur number one goal at WT Griggs Elementary is to provide our students with the tools they need to be successful. Having Spanish language titles in our library gives our school tools and shows our students and their families our commitment to their educational success.","fullyFundedDate":1757016043194,"projectUrl":"project/libros-for-our-kiddos/9623663/","projectTitle":"Libros for Our Kiddos!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mathews","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10186661_orig.jpg?crop=2735,2735,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755605519519","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10186661"},{"teacherId":3728344,"projectId":9027198,"letterContent":"In order that we meet the unique needs of our students, teachers attend high quality trainings that give us the tools for meeting those needs. \r\n\r\nOftentimes, resources are suggested that will enhance our professional development and allow us to deepen our knowledge.
