Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am very proud to say, I currently co-teach a group of fun, passionate, and curious seventh graders! They are eager to grow as independent and proficient readers. However, many need extra help to ignite their desire, especially after two years of inconsistencies.

Over half of my students are qualified for Special Education services and learn best by reading texts that are of high interest and engaging.

Within my classroom, are students who receive services for a variety of learning disabilities like ADHD, ADD, and Autism.

In addition to a variety of learners, my students have a vast variety of differences. Many ethnicities are represented, learning levels, financial backgrounds, and interests!

My Project

My students LOVE competition! March Book Madness is a bracket-style tournament that matches books in one-on-one "games." The games will be decided by student votes. Students can vote individually or you can have a class vote. After each round of voting, the bracket will be updated and the next round of voting will begin.

The books in this project will, without a doubt, increase student engagement in reading!

We will start voting on the books in March. I need your help getting the books by then. Every day, we show book trailers and book talks about the novels, and we already have a waiting list on many of them. These kids are motivated to get their hands on these texts!
