This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bold, curious, kind, and fun-loving! They love to read and listen to stories. They challenge themselves to learn and grow. We were together last year in Kindergarten, and now we're moving up to 1st grade together (yes - students and teachers!). We've been together through thick and thin: from starting Kindergarten in our beloved school, to remote learning for the last few months of Kindergarten, and now on to beginning 1st grade with distance learning.
Many of my students are from low-income households and do not have access to the resources needed to learn at home.
Even so, they continue to thrive and engage any way they can.
We don't know exactly what the 2020-2021 school year holds for us long term, but we know that we'll be learning remotely for the first 9 weeks at least. We are using digital books and video conferencing to read together and independently. But there is nothing like holding a real book and experiencing a page-turner!
My Project
These books will allow my students to continue learning to read and expand their love of reading from home. While we are learning virtually, each student will have a set of books to read independently. We can also read them together or discuss them when we're online since everyone will have the same set.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books at their level, allowing them to read at home just like we do at school!
My students have always loved to listen to books, read to themselves, read to each other, read, read, and read some more. Your much-appreciated support of these book sets will allow them to grow their reading skills and love of reading no matter where they are.
