The books you donated were very impactful for my 4th and 5th grade students.\r\n\r\nWe used these books in several ways. First, our Reading Bowl participants read (and re-read) all 10 books to prepare for the competition. The Reading Bowl is an event where we compete against other school teams in a \"game-show\" style competition, answering questions about the details of these books. We didn't technically win, but we placed higher than we ever have before! And more importantly, we got to read these award-winning books, hone our comprehension skills and attention to details, and work on our sportsmanship and confidence. So we really did win, thanks to your support!\r\n\r\nWe also chose three of the books to read and discuss as a class. The Sherlock Society and Magnolia Wu Unfolds it All fit perfectly into my 5th graders' study of mysteries and forensic science. Two of those scholars named The Sherlock Society as their favorite book ever!! My 4th graders read Moko Magic, which tied right into our study of Mythology. They loved the process of reading and analyzing a novel together and begged to do it again.\r\n\r\nYour donation helped fuel the flame of my students' love for reading. These resources were truly meaningful for my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade advanced classes.\r\n\r\nThe books were primarily intended to help 3rd Grade prepare for the Picture Book Reading Bowl. Scholars read the books, and then we competed against other schools in a \"game-show\" style competition to answer very detailed questions about the books. It was a really fun way to hone their comprehension and attention to detail when reading, as well as to give a unique purpose for learning and work on sportsmanship and confidence. We didn't win, but we performed very well and had a blast!\r\n\r\nMy 1st and 2nd Graders also really enjoyed reading the books. We read some as a class, working on skills such as using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. They also read them during independent reading. In our classroom, though, technology brings students together. Instead of crowding around a small laptop or working alone, students can learn side by side with the extended monitors. This setup makes it easier for everyone to see and understand complex ideas. By sharing a big screen, learning becomes more active and social.\r\n\r\nWhy the Extended Monitors are a Game-Changer\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about this new technology is how clear and big everything looks. Now, \"Math Read Alouds\" feel like a special event everyone can enjoy together.\r\n\r\n* Now, every student in a small group can easily see the text and pictures, which helps everyone stay interested and involved.\r\n* The monitor works like a digital stage. When we show a student's work or a book on the big screen, it celebrates their effort and makes the lesson feel important and exciting.\r\n\r\nStudent Impact: Building Confidence and Community\r\n\r\nWe have seen a remarkable shift in students who were previously hesitant to participate.\r\n\r\n* Some students who were once shy about reading out loud have become more comfortable with the new technology. The extended monitor makes reading feel like something we do together, not just a test for one person. With everyone looking at the big screen, students feel safer trying new things and practicing in front of their classmates.\r\n* The Student Creators: Perhaps most inspiring is how our students have moved from being readers to being authors. Several students took the initiative to create their own math-themed stories. Using the extended monitors, they were able to present their original work to their friends, fostering a deep sense of pride and community.\r\n\r\n---\r\n\r\nIn short, your support has given us more than just new screens. It has helped create a place where students feel safe to try new things, lead their classmates, and enjoy learning together.","fullyFundedDate":1755385385078,"projectUrl":"project/the-math-read-aloud-command-center/9539030/","projectTitle":"The Math Read-Aloud Command Center","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Green","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8845007_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669497772780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8845007"},{"teacherId":3294362,"projectId":9096944,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and generous donation that allowed us to purchase translation earbuds for our English Language Learner (ELL) students. They provide instant, discreet translation, which means students can now grasp complex subjects—from chemistry to history—in real-time. It gave our students and their families fun outdoor activities that they will remember. The fun started at school, where our K–5 students were eager to practice putting up the tents. They worked in teams to tackle poles and ropes, doing real-world engineering and problem-solving before their adventures even started. This hands-on preparation was very important because it gave them the confidence they needed to feel ready for the outdoors when families checked out one of the four tents.\r\nIt was clear that the program had a lasting effect when students came back and told their stories. As they talked about camping under the stars and seeing local animals, their eyes lit up. Many students who had never been camping before because they couldn't afford it or didn't know how were so happy they went. It was a life-changing experience for them. They weren't just telling stories; they were also teaching each other about ecosystems, weather patterns, and how fun it is to work together. This showed how the outdoor activity was a natural extension of the STEAM ideas they had learned. The fact that we had four tents available for checkout made a lasting impression on our students and their families. \r\nThis project got rid of obstacles that made it hard to get started, making a desire for outdoor adventure a reality. By giving them the tools for these trips, you helped them learn more about the environment, sparked their love of nature, and strengthened their core STEAM skills in meaningful ways.
