I am proud to teach music at Hope-Hill Elementary School in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. Hope-Hill is a public Title I school adjacent to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. Our student population is 95% African-American and 5% Hispanic. More than 10% of our student population is homeless. We also have many students who reside in the Bedford-Pine neighborhood (Section 8 housing), which is considered the largest concentration of poverty in the southeastern United States. Over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our students' families do not have the resources for music instruction outside of the school, therefore, I try to give our students every musical opportunity I can provide within our school and around our community.
