My Students

My students are excited to learn each and every day. Our school is located in a small, close knit community that has a passion for educating all students. Many of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.

My students with special needs face many challenges but work hard to learn and grow each day.

Providing my students with as many engaging opportunities to learn is of the utmost importance to me, so they can meet their goals and take pride in their learning.

My Project

My students with Autism and other special needs spend their days working on a variety of skills and these are not always traditional tasks that on might think of at school. My student learn reading, writing and math but they are also learning how to communicate their wants and needs, interact with others and cope with how their disability may affect their emotions. Supplies like the ones in this project allow us to create a unique and specialized learning environment for all of my students.

Board games are a great way for my students with special needs to learn many valuable skills as well as socialize with their same age peers.

Skills taught through board games are waiting your turn, communication, accepting loss and being a good friend but depending on the game it also helps my students apply certain academic skills, problem solve as well as critical thinking skills. This is why we try to incorporate games into our day several times a week.
