The magnetic building sets have given students the opportunity to design, test, and revise their ideas while learning about balance, structure, and spatial reasoning. \r\n\r\nThe Sphero Indi robots have been especially exciting for students because they introduce coding in a completely screen-free, accessible way. Students quickly learned how to create paths, predict outcomes, and debug when something didn't go as planned. We now have a complete classroom set so each student can test out their ideas.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most powerful is seeing how a wide range of students have connected with these tools. Students who don't always shine in the traditional academic settings have become leaders during building and coding challenges, confidently sharing ideas have been guiding their classmates. The excitement, teamwork, and problem-solving happening in our library every day are a direct result of your support. Using Robot Mice, Botley 2.0, and Edison robots, students physically program movements, test their ideas, and revise their code when something doesn't work. This process helps them understand sequencing, logic, and problem-solving in a concrete way, while also building collaboration and persistence. \r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is having enough robots so everyone can participate at the same time. They love planning paths, cheering when their robot completes a challenge, and eagerly troubleshooting when it doesn't. The Edison robots have been especially motivating for students ready for a challenge, as they introduce sensors, loops, and more complex coding. Many students who were initially hesitant have grown more confident as they see their ideas come to life through the robots.\r\n\r\nThis project has been especially impactful for students who thrive with hands-on learning or need extra encouragement to engage. Some students who struggle in traditional classroom settings have become leaders during robotics activities, helping peers debug code and offering creative solutions.","fullyFundedDate":1769188620031,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-stem-magic-with-more-robots/9947310/","projectTitle":"Unlocking STEM Magic With More Robots","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hafke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9012627_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778070074929","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9012627"},{"teacherId":9012627,"projectId":9473639,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our 3D printer has started changing how students experience learning in our library and technology classes. Instead of simply talking about engineering or design, students now get to do it and see the whole process. They learn 3D modeling software to solve problems, test ideas, and revise their designs and then watch those ideas turn into real, physical objects. The hands-on process helps our students better understand abstract concepts like measurement, structure while building their confidence, persistence, and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is seeing their digital creations come to life. There is such amazement when a design they worked on appears layer by layer on the printer. Students eagerly gather to watch prints start, troubleshoot small issues, and celebrate successful builds. The printer has sparked collaboration as students share tips, offer feedback, and help each other refine their designs. \r\n\r\nSome students who don't always shine in traditional classroom settings have especially connected with this technology. Students who love building, problem-solving, or working with their hands have found a space where they can thrive. These slips will be planted in a raised bed that is not yet made. I have had success on my own with raised beds and sweet potatoes. My Biology 1 students this year will help me set up my raised bed and will plant the slips. Next year's Biology 1 kids will harvest them and be able to have a sweet potato fry. They are thrilled to know they can pick out books to take home and start their own personal libraries, without the expectation to return or exchange them. For many, this has opened the door to reading at home in a way they hadn't experienced before. I've seen students eagerly check the library each day, excited to discover what new books might be waiting for them.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include continuing to stock the library with engaging books and involving students in keeping it maintained.
