My students are hard-working artists from every borough of NYC. They audition into our school and when they come, they take traditional high school classes and art studio classes. Sometimes students need a break from their homework and their screens and playing an old-school, analog game offers a respite from academic or studio work as well as from technology. When they come to the library, I want them to be able to complete class work, research a project, and even play a game.
I want to create a library of board games--Scrabble, Chess, Bananagrams, and more—that offer students a break from their work and time to connect with their peers and their own minds.
These games will still challenge and occupy students when they come from the library, but will also encourage them to slow down and play during a busy day. To encourage them to "unplug" I'm asking for charging stations so they can juice up their devices while they play.
Games encourage and allow students of all backgrounds and ability levels to play. Help me offer this board game brain break opportunity for the 2500 amazing artists at my school.
