My Students

My students are some of the brightest and hard working kids you would ever meet. Many of them are forced to grow up at a young age because of their home environment.

I work in an inner city school and many of my students are forced to deal with things that most adults do not have to deal with.

Many of my students have a difficult time dealing with issues in their personal life. Having a skill that will help them manage bad situations in their life is invaluable.

My Project

The harmonica was an instrument that has helped people cope with difficult situations. The materials requested will make it possible for students to learn how to play the harmonica and give them a tool that will help them cope with things in their lives that are out of their control.

Local musicians with similar backgrounds come to the school and give a lesson on how singing the blues helped them deal with hard things in their life.

After this lesson, the musicians teach them how to treat the harmonica and how to play some simple songs.

As a harmonica player myself, I know how important music can be to help people deal with difficult life experiences. The students in my school, that have the privilege to teach, come from backgrounds where learning to play a simple instrument would be beneficial.
