Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My seventh grade students LOVE science. This year is the first that my school has had a dedicated science teacher, and my students are thrilled that they are now in a "real" science class. They are full of curiosity about the world around them, and eager to learn the answers to their burning science questions!

Unfortunately, we do not have a science classroom at my school. I travel between rooms with a cart, and with only two minutes to move myself, my supplies, and my students between rooms we often lose a lot of learning time in transitions. My students love pictures and other science visuals, but moving large posters between classrooms is a practical impossibility in our situation.

I would like to have inkjet-printable overhead transparencies and ink so that I can create more portable science visuals to carry between classrooms. I could use these resources to make clear and colorful diagrams, charts, and illustrations of science content for my students. Our upcoming unit on the rock cycle, for example, would be greatly enhanced by having a large diagram of the cycle for my students to refer to during lessons and labs. My students could also write on the transparencies when it is their turn to lead the class discussion, and the transparencies could be washed and re-used year after year.

You can help maximize my students' learning time, as well as the quality of that learning time. It is wonderful to watch them ooh and aw over science visuals, and to watch their grins as a diagram or illustration suddenly makes a complex concept clear.
