My Project

Through Black History we learn so much about ourselves and our abilities to overcome challenges – big and small. I believe when students see themselves in books and posters they feel empowered and accepted. Seeing heroes just like them who made changes in the world, shows them the possibilities are at their fingertips to make changes and become a hero, too.

These materials (books, posters) will give windows and mirrors into the lives of our scholars: opening windows for peers to build empathy and acceptance and mirrors for peers to build self-confidence and a sense of belonging.

The shirt will help inspire my scholars and let them know that they belong in our classroom.

We learn to reason and wonder about things morally. We also learn from the mistakes people made in the past and learn the importance of treating others with compassion. We learn to be givers and helpers.

Our minds and hearts grow as we journey through time and learn about these strong, fascinating heroes.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
