Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to solve problems like engineers. At my school one of the topics that my kinder students need to study is Human Impact. Specifically, they learn about how cutting down trees negatively impacts the wildlife in an environment.

My students will help solve the problem of habitat loss by reverse engineering a bird nest.

The students will research what birds need in order to survive and the kinds of habitats they live in. Then students will design a nest to create an "artificial" habitat that is conducive to meeting the needs of a bird by using clay, aluminum foil, bendable fuzzy sticks, craft sticks and cupcake liner and birds in innovative ways to create a 3-D model.

My students will also be introduced to careers in this field and learn about how humans have begun this process in restoring coral reefs by building man-made reefs.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
