It was so fun to watch my students as I unboxed our new novels, Shiloh. I told them how friends, family, and even perfect strangers were willing to help purchase these books for them. Not only are they excited to read it, it lead to a wonderful discussion about how we can pay it forward for others. One student even asked, \"Can we raise money to help others have their projects bought?\" This generosity has sparked a chain reaction, prompting us to think of others rather than just ourselves.\r\n We started to read our book, and they are already having deep discussions and understanding how an author can pull you into their \"world.\" Every Wednesday is our novel study, and so many kids have shared that it is their favorite day of the week. It is so gratifying to see them around the room reading, and it has helped them build their stamina and laser focus. Their ability to read for an extended time has increased, and it is definitely because this book has a little something for everyone.\r\n The lessons I am able to teach using this book are standards-based, but so much more fun and entertaining. than some of our other curriculum. I can't wait to open the discussion that is so inspiring to students. The most intriguing question we grapple with is \"Is it ever ok to lie? What if it were to save an animal?\" This leads them to understand that there is right and wrong, but not every decision we make is black and white. I know this gift you gave will open their minds and imaginations!
