Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A large rolling classroom whiteboard is more than a display surface; it is an instructional tool that directly supports research-based teaching practices proven to deepen student engagement, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. When used intentionally, a it transforms learning into an active, visible, and shared process. Research shows students learn more when they actively participate rather than passively receive information. A rolling whiteboard invites students to write, draw, annotate, and manipulate ideas in real time, keeping them physically and cognitively engaged. I can model problem-solving strategies step by step on a large whiteboard, making thinking visible. Rolling whiteboards naturally encourage group work. Students can gather around the board to solve problems together, negotiate ideas, and co-construct understanding. I can quickly assess student understanding by observing responses written on the board. Misconceptions are addressed instantly, which research shows is critical for long-term learning and skill development. When student thinking is displayed publicly, it becomes a shared resource. Visible thinking routines improve reasoning, accountability, and the ability to build upon others’ ideas. Whiteboards support low-stakes, ongoing assessment. I can pose questions and immediately gauge understanding, adjusting instruction in real time to meet student needs.

Writing and discussing ideas on a shared board promotes structured academic talk.

Students explain their reasoning, justify answers, and respond to peers, key practices for developing language and higher-order thinking. Whiteboards are easy to revise and erase, which normalizes mistakes as part of learning. Research shows that psychologically safe environments increase risk-taking, persistence, and deeper engagement. Teachers can model on the board, guide students collaboratively, and then allow students to independently demonstrate understanding, aligning with the “I do, we do, you do” instructional framework.

A large whiteboard supports whole-class participation, where learning is collective rather than isolated. Students see themselves as contributors to a learning community, which strengthens collaboration and accountability.
